Quick answer: textile scouring needs fast wetting plus bath compatibility
A textile wetting agent should rapidly displace air and carry the scouring liquor into the substrate without creating uncontrollable foam or losing performance in alkali, electrolyte, hard water and process heat. Select the grade using the real fibre, fabric construction, bath composition, temperature, liquor ratio and equipment—not a room-temperature surface-tension value alone.

Method and regulatory boundary: ISO 8022 is a controlled immersion wetting method, while ISO 3071 addresses pH of textile aqueous extracts. Neither alone establishes scouring efficiency or chemical compliance. For EU-bound washable textile articles, evaluate the current scope of REACH Annex XVII entry 46a for NPE.
